Mrs. Ballard Out, Likely For Rest of the Year

Hello, all!

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you I will be out for the rest of the year. I've had some pregnancy related health issues in the last few weeks with blood pressure and my doctor has asked me to stay on modified bed rest until the baby comes. We tried to keep my blood pressure down when I came back to work on Friday, 3/31 after a few days of bed rest, but my body couldn't handle it and I was sent home early. The baby and I are okay - we just have to take it easy until she comes. I really wanted to stay through UIL, but life had other plans. The good news is, every single member of our choir and piano classes are fantastic, smart, and will do a wonderful job in my absence!

Mr. Nelson will be here as the long term substitute on the 17th of April, but he has a few other things lined up that can't be moved until then. We'll have a few different music substitutes to fill in the gaps between now and then. As soon as I know more about this, I'll let you know.

I've spoken with Ms. Moreno and Mr. Nelson about 2nd period and 6th period's involvement with UIL. Through many different circumstances, 2nd period and I have not been able to meet in quite awhile. I was planning on catching up this week, but now that I'm out until further notice, the three of us agreed that participating in UIL is not in everyone's best interest. 6th period will, of course, still go. Can't wait to hear the recording! You will be fantastic and I'm so glad I've been able to share this semester and year with you, learning so much together.

To recap:

  • Mr. Nelson will be here the 17th-end of the year. Music subs will be here as much as we can manage on short notice 4/3-4/17.
  • 2nd period is NOT participating in UIL
  • 6th period IS participating in UIL, and sings at 10:00 AM on 4/12.
  • Remember we have the Pre-UIL Concert at Akins on 4/10! Mr. Nelson is conducting. Tuxes and Gowns.
  • Spring Concert is still May 25th - you need your t-shirts, so make sure you pay your fair share.

I'm only a phone call or Remind message away - feel free to contact me if any emergencies arise or if you have any questions. I would love to say that I'll be back for the end of the year, but I don't want to make a promise I can't keep. My goal is to attend graduation. Go class of 2017!

See you guys soon, and I promise I'll send pictures when the baby is born. Be good for your substitutes (I expect exemplary behavior!) and I'll see you when I see you. Love each and every one of you!
