AP Music Theory at Advanced Academic Night, Countdown to UIL, Pop Show, and Long-Term Substitute

Happy March, everyone! Lots of updates to let you know about - let's jump right in.

Tomorrow (3/2), Akins is hosting Advanced Academic Night. Since Akins Choir and Piano also includes AP Music Theory, we will be represented by Mrs. Kesling at the event. Flyers are available there, and any questions about the course can be emailed to me at catherine.ballard@austinisd.org. The event runs from 6:30-8:00.

UIL is fast approaching, and I want to remind everyone of upcoming dates:

3/27 Pre-UIL at the AISD PAC (Mandatory for 2nd and 6th period students, during the school day)

4/10 Pre-UIL at Akins High School (Mandatory for all students)

4/11 and 4/12 UIL at Hays PAC (Mandatory for 2nd and 6th period students, during the school day. Schedule will be available closer to the actual performance date)

1st period will not be attending UIL on 3/27, 4/11 and 4/12 due to not enough students being eligible, but 2nd and 6th period will be attending.

Long-Term Substitute

I will be out for maternity leave starting 4/17 (as long as everything goes according to plan), and Malcolm Nelson will be your long-term substitute. He is an accomplished director and will take care of the choirs, the piano classes, and music theory classes. You will love him!

Pop Show - 5/25/2017 7 PM

I can't believe it's time to start thinking about this, but our pop concert will be fast approaching after UIL ends. Music is ordered, accompaniment tracks are on their way, and I'm starting choreography soon! The choirs will be singing the following songs:

1st Period

  • Uptown Funk (Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars)
  • All of Me (John Legend)

2nd Period

  • At Last (Etta James)
  • Photograph (Ed Sheeran)
  • Like I'm Gonna Lose You (Meghan Trainor)

6th Period

  • Waterfalls (TLC)
  • The Nearness of You (Bob Manning/Norah Jones)
  • Cry Me A River (Ella Fitzgerald)

Combined 1st, 2nd, 6th

  • Shut Up and Dance With Me (Walk the Moon)

Also, how sweet is it that ROTC was kind enough to congratulate our students that made State Solo and Ensemble? It's wonderful to be recognized - thank you ROTC!
