Boy's Basketball Game, Solo and Ensemble, SXSW, TMEA, and African American Heritage Ceremonies!
So much is happening around here lately! It's officially the start of the 5th six weeks, which means this school year is almost over. I can't believe it's gone by so fast. There is much to do between now and the last day of school however, so buckle in for a busy rest of the spring semester!
About 30 choir, orchestra, and band students traveled to San Antonio, TX this past weekend for the Texas Music Educator's Conference. Students had a great time attending concerts, listening to veteran teachers speak in sessions, and walking around the exhibit hall.
This Valentine's Day, our top choir sang the national anthem for the boy's final basketball game of the season. They were incredibly well received, and I couldn't be prouder of them!
Solo and Ensemble preparations are continuing, and students should have their music memorized by Tuesday of next week. Rehearsals with our accompanist start on Tuesday during school for 6th period and Thursday after school for 1st and 2nd period. The $20 for the accompanist is due TOMORROW or students will unfortunately have to be dropped from Solo and Ensemble and pay the drop fee.
Akins choir is being asked to sing at so many events this year and we're thrilled! We will be singing Lift Every Voice for the African American Heritage Ceremony here at Akins next Thursday, and 6th period will be performing at SXSW on March 7th! We love sharing our music with our community and are so glad to be involved.
