Madrigal Dinner in Two Weeks!

Our first annual Madrigal Dinner is in two weeks, and I can't wait for you to see what the students have been working on! There are pirates, a murder mystery, and lots of laughs in our play and wonderful music to be heard.

1st, 2nd, and 6th period choirs have been working hard to prepare for the 3-day event, held on Devember 15th, 16th, and 17th at St. John's Presbyterian Church (12420 Hewitt Ln). Tickets are available at akinshschoir.ludustickets.com. Prices have gone down significantly thanks to a wonderful choir parent who also happens to be a caterer! Thank you so much!

Students will be riding school buses to the church on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but will need to find their own way there on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The rehearsal schedule is as follows:

Monday, December 12th - 6th period students ride buses to St. John's at 4:45, and are picked up by parents at 9:00 PM.

Tuesday, December 13th - 6th period students ride buses to St. John's at 4:45, and are picked up by parents at 9:00 PM.

Wednesday, December 14th - 1st, 2nd, and 6th period students ride buses to St. John's at 4:45, and are picked up by parents at 9:00 PM.

The dinner happens between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and students are picked up by parents at 9:00.

Friday, December 16th - Second night of the Madrigal Dinner! 1st, 2nd, and 6th period students needs to find their own way to St. John's since school lets out at 1:10, and rehearsal doesn't start until 5:30 PM. The dinner happens between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and students are picked up by parents at 9:00.

The dinner happens between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and students are picked up by parents at 9:30 to allow time for tear down and clean up.

1st and 6th period already have costumes, but 2nd period will need to supply their own for this year. I simply don't have the budget to clothe that many students in new uniforms without raising the Fair Share (which is not something I want to do!). 2nd period students will need to find costumes that resemble something from the Renaissance, as pictured below.

Any sort of peasant top, with a longer skirt will do. It is already part of my budget for next year to supply these uniforms to students in 2nd period. I would check places like Goodwill, but you can probably find something suitable already in your wardrobe. Please don't feel the need to spend a lot of money on this! I asked the class if they would rather wear their regular choir dresses or find their own costumes, and it was an almost unanimous desire to find their own. The only thing we'd like to avoid is bright colors, since those were worn by royalty back in the Renaissance. Please email or call with any questions about what they need to wear. Students in 2nd period will need to have these uniforms by 12/5, so I can preview them in class. Thank you so much for understanding!

One last thing to mention - because this is a paid event, and because of the Texas No Pass No Play Law, students that are not passing their classes with at least a 70 by 12/9 will not be participating in the Madrigal Dinner. I cannot allow them to participate by law. In exchange for not attending the Madrigal Dinner, students that do not pass will need to write a lengthy make up assignment, which is outlined below, and can also be found in our handbook.
